Today I’m going to tell about what is an USB OTG and Some Awesome Uses of OTG

                USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated as USB OTG, is a Specification that allows USB devices to act as a host device, that allows other USB devices such as keyboard, mouse, flash drives, etc.

This was introduced in the year 2001.

Traditionally Mobile Devices could only have connected to a PC/MAC by USB data cable, but Mobile device can act as host using OTG

Uses of USB OTG:

·         Connect USB flash drive

This is the most widely used feature of an OTG. It is used to store extra/big files that you use occasionally. Hence storing the phone space for quick and efficient working of your phones. It can be used as alternative to cloud storage (non-cloud based storage)

·         Connect Keyboard and Mice

Yes, you are right. This is the second most used feature :D. You can directly connect your Keyboard or Mice for playing games or key board can be used for typing long text or Emails.

·         Connect MIDI Keyboard

If you like making Music on Android, USB OTG enables you to connect devices like MIDI Keyboards and controllers, audio inputs for Instrument and Vocals. Making your Phone or Tablet into a serious music making machine.

·         Connect USB Fan

You can get one from a starting price of 30 INR, and a good quality one for around 300 INR (there are cooler versions also). It can be used to cool yourself or if your phone heats up it can be used to cool the phone also.

·         Connect Game Controller

You can directly connect your Game Controller to your phone/Tablet through USB OTG. You can play any games that support use of game controller.

·         Connect USB Light

You can connect a USB Light to your phone directly via OTG. You can get a good one at 50 INR. It is way brighter than your flash light. It can be used for taking pics (with extra flash) and used to light up your way when you are walking in dark.

·        Connect LAN Cable

Yes! You can connect LAN cable to your android phone. You don’t have Wi-Fi in your home but you have a Broadband Connection or if your router has a problem you can connect LAN cable to Your phone using USBto LAN converter via USB OTG. It will cast you around 180-200 INR.

·         Connect DSLR Camera:

You need to download an app called Q DSLR Dashboard. Connect Your DSLR’s Data cable to your phone via OTG, and by the app you can perform all the operations on your phone/tablet. This uses PTP and PTP/IP protocals. So no need to worry about data security.

·         Connect USB Sound Card

If your 3.5mm Jack has any problem or you want to connect a 5.1 audio channel. You can do by connecting USB Sound card via OTG to your phone.

Some phones also support charging, you can connect OTG cable to Power Cable and connect to another phone.

Why to use Gloves while Riding?

I’m a person who always gives first priority to the safety. Since, road accidents don’t happen only because of you fault, most of the cases it is some others fault and roads are filled with dumb riders and drivers.

If your riding with a helmet, it will save your head*, but in a crash the most injured and surely injured part is your palm and wrist. So riding with a glove is very important

Reasons for wearing gloves:

1.       Improved Grip and Control:

You know that being out on a bike can make you pretty sweaty – especially if it is one of those warm and humid days. And that means your hands are wet, too. Like clothes with wicking technology, a good pair of gloves will help keep your hands dry, which means that you can maintain a better grip on the handlebars.

The gloves also serve to trap the sweat that would otherwise be likely to drip into your shifters. And over time, moisture – and especially perspiration because of its high mineral content – can cause those components to deteriorate.

2.       Comfort and Protection for Skin:

If you’ve ever spent a couple of hours or more on a bike, you probably realized that, somewhat surprisingly, cycling can be pretty hard on your hands. From the constant pressure on your palms, to the wear on your fingers from running your shifters through the range of gears, it doesn’t take long for calluses or blisters to develop. A pair of bike gloves can give your skin the extra layer of protection you need to be comfortable, even on the longest ride.

3.       Shock Absorption:

You’ll notice that many pairs of gloves on the market today have some type of cushioning, such as gel padding, etc., built into the palms. The reason is that gloves with this padding serve a very useful function in absorbing shock from the road that would otherwise be transferred to the rider.

4.       Protection in Crash:

What do most people do as they start to fall? They put their hands out to try and catch themselves, to break their impact as they hit the ground. If you’ve ever fallen like this, you know that you can really tear up your palms when they go skidding across pavement or rocks.

               

5.       Warmth:

This provide warm sensation in cold winds or high altitude riding. This prevent tour hands from numbness.

How does Google Search work?

When you search a web in Google, you are not actually searching the web, instead you are searching the Google’s Index of the Web. These Indexes are searched from web by Spiders

What are Spiders?

Spiders are software programs that crawls the web. Spiders start by fetching few web pages and they follow the links on that pages and fetch the pages they point to and follow the link on those pages and fetch the pages they link to and so on… until we index a pretty big chunk of the web, many billions of pages stored across thousands of machines. (i.e. Spiders keeps on going from one to many pages constantly for Indexing)

<the following of the link from pages are done by crawlers and spiders downloads the index. Say a Crawler is simply a subset of Spiders>

<A developer/site owner chooses whether his site can be crawled or not, so there are many pages that even Google guru can’t find>

Okay, now

What happens when you type in your ‘Search Word’ and Press Enter<return>

For Example, your Search word is- ‘Elephants Weight in Tons’

Google’s Spider searches the Google’s Index to find every page that includes those terms, in this example there are Hundreds of Thousands of possible Results.

How will google decide? Which few documents I really want.

Simply by Asking questions, like

i) how many times does the page contains the key word

ii) does the key words appears in the Title or in the URL or directly adjacent to the text

iii) does the page includes synonyms for those words

iv) is the page from quality website or low quality or spam

v) freshness of the page

vi) what is the Page Rank of the page.

vii) Translations

viii)Universal search (Web, Image, News, Map, Video, etc.)

Page Rank:

Is a formula, invented by founders of Google, that rates the webpages importance by looking how many outside links point to it and how important those links are.

Finally, we combine all those factors together to produce each page’s overall score and send you back your search results in about 1/8^th of a second after you submit your search

In the Search results, each entry includes

i)Titles

ii)URL

iii)sniffed of text

to help me decide whether this is the page what I am looking for.

We also see

iv) links to similar pages as search result.

v)Google’s most recent stored versions of that kind of page.

and at the bottom

vi)later searches we want to try next.

And we also get ads about our searches (only if there are any) at the side(right) or at the top.

Google always strives to show ads you want to see and always distinguish ads and search results.

What is & How to RUN IN/ BREAK IN a New Bike?

Buying a new Bike Always Brings excitement and a large Grin on face. Next Thing that comes to mind is how to RUN-IN/BREAK-IN

BREAK-IN (Mechanical Run-in) is defined by wiki as, " Break-in is the procedure of conditioning a new piece of equipment by giving it an initial period of running, usually under light load, but sometimes under heavy load or normal load. It is generally a process of moving parts wearing against each other to produce the last small bit of size and shape adjustment that will settle them into a stable relationship for the rest of their working life"

or in simple words, it is riding a new vehicle to allow wearing of new parts that are brought together (piston rings and cylinder walls to be exact), and to settle down those wearied parts for smooth movements.

History:

Back in those days, when the engines were Hand Built, each parts were individually made. Thus, resulting in non-uniform make, which would result in lot of issues in engine like breakdown, failure, seizure, etc. So, the experts in Industry came about with a method of Breaking In.

In this way the engine would be allowed to run under less stressful conditions, then making sure that all parts of engine gels together in Equilibrium of sorts, that means parts of Engine like bore, piston heads, rings, valves are all smoothened out & work perfectly without any issues.

Now in today’s date all components are made essentially using automation techniques, means there is high amount of precision and uniformity. That also means all parts fit perfectly. On top of it there are lot of test conducted on the engine prior to fitting it to bike and sold to customer.

Nowadays with all the super bikes and sport bikes, the engines come pre-blast, means most of the running in test have been performed in factory itself making bike capable of red lining from the word go. But still it is not really recommended to do that. Every bike should go through a proper break-in for optimum performance and efficiency.

How To Run-in:

The basic of any break in process for a motorcycle engine is to get it acclimatized with all the real world situations out there. That includes not stressing the engine by revving it hard until the parts begin to function smoothly, but also getting the engine used to the daily cycle which it has to perform. So if you want to properly break in your bike’s engine, it is suggested to not take it out on the highways

The reason being simple, your engine should be able to work smoothly across the entire rev range. And taking the bike on the highway means the engine keeps going at a constant rpm. This means the engine does not get the exposure to city ridding and sudden start and stops.

Secondly it is important to be running a good mineral oil in the bike. Synthetic oils are good in performance situations, but when it comes to actually getting the parts working properly, mineral oils do the job best. Also one has to change the engine oil quite frequently during the breaking in period. Hence mineral oils being cheap are the perfect choice. The frequency of engine oil change for bikes is:

1st change at 500 kms.
2nd change at 1500 kms.
3rd change at 5000 kms.

Do keep in mind that every time you change the engine oil, do change the oil filter as well. At the 3rd oil change, you could either go with the same mineral oil; else you could also change your oil to a synthetic one of the recommended grade of course.
